Nothing defines America better than the farms and barns of our heartland.
The repeated patterns of plowed and planted fields, the ever-present structure of the barn and the constantly changing sky bring to mind the ideas of square acres, square deals, individuality and personal roots. Traditional perspective and horizons are integrated with 360 degree and aerial views. Strong color and design explore the physical ground and our personal connections to the land.
Strata
These paintings explore the idea of layers in art, nature and meaning. Multiple layers of paint are applied in various methods including washes, glazes, stencils, dry brush, spatter and imprinting. The elements of nature both above and below the earth's surface and the meaning those elements hold for us are examined in detail in the central grid and the trees symbolize enduring life and the connection between the surface and what lies below.
The Fields Project: Bringing Artists & Agriculture together
The Fields Project is a nine-day artist-in-residence program that houses artists on working farms and gives them the opportunity to explore the landscape of Ogle County Illinois. Based in Oregon, IL, the project allows artists to immerse themselves in the experience of rural America and express it thru their art. This unique experience brings new understanding to all involved.
